Rust and Flowers

Recently I went through my favourites list of blogs, and looked at some that I had neglected for a time; I found Leah Day's ‘Earth Flower’ motif and as usual impressed by her skill I had to have a go. The idea sort of hung around for a while and then I saw a piece of rusted fabric hanging on the ‘line’ in my room and thought nothing would be lost by quilting the motif onto it.

Before adding hand stitching and more details.

 I got quite hooked and actually have found more pleasure in working on this little piece than I have done for a while.

 I am going to seed stitch all around the motifs and then make it into a front for a cushion using an off cream silk dupion.

Rust Plus

Working in my sketchbook I have been playing around with the rusted pages adding stitch and wax.

I took photographs and manipulated these using Sketchbook Pro and Pro Create on the ipad.

Its easy fun to then change them further and print out to add to the sketchbook collection.

With a layer of wax,then, below, photographed and manipulated in Pro Create.

This was adapted for my group by using letter stamps, stencils and a wax stylus.

Old Cooker Pleads For A New Life.

It’s nice to think about my new kitchen but three weeks in I am fed up of dust and chaos. I want my washing machine back!

 But the one good part is that I salvaged some of the old cooker parts and had some happy hours waiting for them to rust onto paper.

 Years ago I did a hanging with some rusted fabric I had made using  wire wool pads and vinegar. 

                            A couple of years ago I also made a book using rusted fabric and some of the copies of the notes and recipes my mother had left.

 Suddenly rusting is in vogue again and on the net there are some lovely images of both fabric and paper which people have rusted; most remarkably Alice Fox.     Mine is just a bit of a diversion but I hope to use one of the images on canvas as a picture for my new kitchen.
